What are Guilds?
Guilds are a group of players who enjoy playing together online. Some Guilds are very "business" and some are very laid back. Guilds can have just a few or several hundred players. A lot of raids take place by larger guilds, who have the people and the organization needed.
How do you join a Guild?
You must be invited to a guild to be a part of it. Some guilds have level and armor requirements. Some may have only a few people in them. Guilds have a lot to offer players of all levels. Higher level players will find others to run instances or raids with. And lower levels can get much needed help with quests even gold from their Guild.
What are the benefits of a Guild?
If you enjoy playing in a team and often find it hard to find a group to help you with a quest or instance, a guild can be very beneficial to you. You'll find help and supoort from people who are close to your level, above your level, and one day people there will be looking to you for help as well.
Each guild can purchase a guild bank. One Guild Bank Slot costs 100 gold and the second costs 250 gold. Lower level players can pick up items that higher level players leave here to help out the newer players. Items such as bags, professions materials, crafted quests items, and more can be found here. The Guild must first purchase these slots, and some new guilds might not yet have a Guild Bank.
Guilds also have Guild Tabbards. These again must be purchased but are not as expensive as a Guild Bank. Tabbards cost 10 gold, and for another 10 gold you can change the tabbard til it's just right. Tabbards are a great way to alter the look of your character.
How Do I Start a Guild?
When you're ready to start a guild go and talk to the Guild Master in a major city. He'll give you a Guild Charter that requires 10 signatures for the guild to be formed. This is very cheap, less than 1g, maybe 10 silver if I remember correctly. The tabbard is where the 10 gold comes from.
If you don't have 9 other people ready to sign the charter don't worry, just look for people who aren't in a guild and ask them to sign your charter. Some will some won't. I think the first guild I started I ran around for about an hour asking people to sign it. Most who did just /gquit when it was done. Don't worry if you only get a few names and you have to sign off. When you sign back online your charter will still be there waiting for you and your future signatures. A good idea here if you have the gold is to go to the Newbie area with the level 1-5's running around and offer to pay them 1 gold to sign your charter, I've never tried this technique but I've heard it's very successful.
I Have a Guild, Now What?
Head over and pick out a Guild Tabbard, they're about 10 gold, and I recomend buying some for new players who join the guild. Pick something people will like, and you'll have more people proud to wear them.
You can start recruiting people for your guild whenever you like. I got a Guild Bank first (100 gold) but you can recruit before then. You want people to join that you enjoy playing with. If you're big in PvP, find people who enjoy PvP, and play BGs together. If you're a mid-low level, and enjoy questing, find people who would like to quest with you. Ultimately it's your Guild and you can do what you please with it
What Will Make My Guild Better Than Every Other Guild?
A large guild has more to offer, but it takes time to creat a large guild. In the begining, don't be afraid to just invite a bunch of people who aren't in Guilds, and recruit on the chat channels to get people in your guild. Promote everyone to a position they can Invite other players with, and give incentives for finding new people. Ingage yourself with the new members, and when they enjoy your guild and have a good time, they're want others to join as well. If you're finding that there are "bad apples" kick em out, you're the leader and your guild will be looking up to you to make the right choices.
